FutureSSM is a division of the Community Development and Enterprise Services (CDES) Department at the City of Sault Ste. Marie. Under the leadership of Deputy CAO Tom Vair, CDES comprises of Building, Community Services and Planning & Enterprise Services.

Travis Anderson

 

Travis Anderson   Project Manager

Travis Anderson has over 14 years of project management and community development experience in the natural resource sector including leading the development of large-scale renewable and conventional energy projects. His experience includes community consultation and engagement, management of engineering design, commercial feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, First Nations consultation, stakeholder relations, regulatory approvals, construction and operations in Canada and internationally.

Travis received his Honours Degree in Environmental Studies from Carleton University and obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the Simon Fraser University. He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Katie Elliott

 

Katie Elliott   Communications Coordinator

A 'boomerang' back to Sault Ste. Marie, Katie has over 11 years’ experience working in policy, communications and community development. Her interest in pairing public relations with community, economic and social development has contributed to the long-term sustainability and resiliency of northern and rural communities.

She has held senior positions at Northern Policy Institute, NORDIK Institute, Parliament of Canada and Natural Resources Canada, and has completed studies in Political Science at McGill University and Public Relations at Ryerson University. Katie is the recipient of the Sault Ste. Marie Honda Community Driven Award for Leadership, 2016.

As Communications Coordinator, Katie's role is to manage all communications activities for FutureSSM and create opportunities for outreach and visibility in the community and beyond.

Jennifer Mathewson

 

Jennifer Mathewson Film, Television & Digital Media Coordinator

Jennifer Mathewson has had extensive experience in various areas of filmmaking. She has served as Production Coordinator, Assistant Production Coordinator, Casting Assistant, and Grip for various projects. Her passion for filmmaking and love for Sault Ste. Marie maker her an ideal fit for this position.

She is a graduate of Recording Arts Canada – Audio Engineering, and Sault College – Digital Film Production. Her background includes experience in talent promotion, feature films, television and commercial work.

Jennifer is responsible for coordinating Sault Ste. Marie's dedicated film office, with a specific mandate to facilitate, promote, and develop the film, television and digital media industry in the community.

Todd Fleet

 

Todd Fleet Arts & Culture Coordinator

A connector and innovator in the local arts and culture community, Todd Fleet has over 13 years’ experience with the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (CBHC) as an Exhibit Coordinator and Curator. He has extensive experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, business planning and grant writing, which has resulted in over $2 million of funding raised for capital and programming projects of the CBHC. Todd has also been a fine arts practitioner and muralist since 1999.

Todd holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts Studies from Algoma University and a Certificate in Museum Studies from the Ontario Museum Association.

Todd's role is to coordinate, implement and monitor initiatives designed to improve the Arts & Culture sector of our community.

Paul Sayers

 

Paul Sayers  Labour Force Development Coordinator

Paul Sayers is Anishnaabe from the Garden River First Nation and a graduate of the University of Toronto. With 20+ years’ experience in Human Resources and Community Development, he has dedicated his career to assisting Indigenous people obtain employment in a variety of organizations including the University of Saskatchewan, CIBC, Hydro One, Garden River First Nation and Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training.

His specialization focuses on partnering with external Indigenous organizations and building award-winning programs such as the 2008 CIBC (Calgary) Job Readiness Training program for Aboriginal Women and the Aboriginal Career Start program with the University of Saskatchewan.

He also holds a Registered Professional Recruiter designation through the Institute of Professional Management. As part of his role in Indigenous-focused recruitment, he also specializes in diversity recruitment focusing on Persons with Disabilities, Newcomers, Military Veterans and Women.

Paul is responsible for coordinating, creating and implementing and monitoring initiatives designed to improve the labour force of our community.
